Wedding Photoshoots, Seeking Models, Training & Salon International
Well there’s lots going on as usual. I was in Manchester for the first Salon North for HJ, compering on the Fellowship for British Hairdressing stage.
Then it was a great day working with Perfect Wedding Magazine shooting their covers. I really enjoy working with Michelle and the team there. We created some great looks; Nigel on make-up worked his magic as always. Congratulations to Jenni Hare, photographer and fellow Aussie on her recent engagement.
The judging is now all done for the British Hairdressing Awards. I love my collection this year and I’m really just happy to be in the final! Now, it’s the big wait till November 28th, when the winners will be announced at Grosvenor House on Park Lane. Good luck to all the finalists. I really need to find some time to get the perfect dress – any excuse for a good look around Selfridges.
I can’t believe it’s that time of year again! I’m in charge of organising the Fellowship for British Hairdressing annual Luncheon and Awards. I love the Dorchester Hotel and hope that this year goes as smoothly as last year’s. All the judging has now been done; we were sinking under all the entries this year, it was great to see how much effort all the entrants put in. I’d like to say a huge thank you to the judges – Nicola Shannon from Professional Hairdresser, Ruth Hunsley from HJ, Russell John-Barker of Mahogany, Andreas Stavrou, Bruno Marc Antoni and Louise Wood from LWPR. Good luck to all the finalists.
On the fun side of life, I managed to sneak a cheeky three days in Ibiza with my brilliant friends Doug, Jackie and Chris. We had a great villa with beautiful grand views and one night there was the most spectacular electrical storm that went on for two hours and lit up the sky, taking out the power for a few minutes, it was really exciting. It’s a lovely island, the beaches are nice, but the sand is not soft so I’d have to say Australian beaches are better (but that’s just me being biased). We did lots of walking and great drives, discovering the north. We went to Café Del Mar and the old town, drinking and dancing, all in a three day break – it felt like a month.

I was invited to Ann Herman’s 90th Birthday bash at the Hilton in Watford it was a brilliant lunch Ann is still hugely active in the industry organising events, I hope I can be like this at 90.
Last week we had a brilliant training session with the team, teaching new techniques for cutting and blow-drying differently, and stepping outside of the box to look at trends in more depth. It always puts a new spark in the team.
Thank you Ann for a fab night at the Barbican we went to see a production of modern dance performed by the Michael Clark Company
Sunday was a full-on day. We had a group of Italians visiting for the third time, so we had a great time in the salon teaching cutting and colouring techniques using Organic Colour Systems – a huge thank you to all the fabulous models. The next session with the Italian group is the 6th November – we’ll be looking for 8 models so get in touch if you’re interested…
Monday was a council meeting and a quick dash to The Dorchester to do the final decisions on the tables. Everything is in full swing now and I can’t wait!
On Tuesday, I was judging the Russian Hair Awards at the Radisson Blu In Portman Sqaure. Their images have come on leaps and bounds in the five years that I’ve been judging.
Today is my little nephew Lucas’s fourth birthday – a big Happy Birthday to you!
Now it’s the final rush into the big build-up for Salon International this weekend – it’s going to be pretty full-on! I love this weekend as everybody is in town, lots of shows to go to, lots of people to meet. Come and visit the Fellowship stage, there will be lots of amazing work and Monday is the final for the F.A.M.E Team selection which will be announced at the Luncheon on the 5th December.
I want to take a moment to remember my dear friend Colin who passed away a year ago. Too young to have his life taken away, may he rest in peace – I miss him.
