I am very excited to be starting my first blog! So let me tell you a bit about me: I started my career in my parents’ salon in the small Australian town of Wollongong, I always had a passion for hairdressing and couldn’t wait to leave school to start!. I started my basic training at 15 and as soon as I finished my training (4 years standard in Australia) and got my license, the big city was calling... At 20 I jumped on a plane and travelled a bit before coming to London to see where all the major fashion action happened - hair and clothes fashion is intrinsic with London to any young Aussie... I worked at Charles Worthington on the international Art team and travelled to Greece, Ireland and many other countries teaching advanced cutting and colouring, and working on stage at the likes of Salon International. I was Deputy Manager at the flagship Percy Street salon, then went on to manage the Covent Garden salon. I won many awards there but my favourite was a little red car for being their Performer of the Year! I also worked on London fashion week with Betty Jackson, Russell Sage (designed the Goring hotel for the Royal wedding), Red or Dead and more before setting up my own Covent Garden salon.
I won London Hairdresser of the Year in the 2007 British Hairdressing Awards and the Fellowship for British’s hairdressing consumer image of the year 2011. My skills are in cutting, styling and colouring and I hold the L’Oreal Colour Specialist Degree, putting me in the top 1% of L’Oreal colorists in the UK. I introduced an organic colour range, Organic Colour Systems, to the salon in summer 2007 to give clients a more eco-friendly alternative to the usual big brands and the range has been enthusiastically received with over 80% of clients switching over. I am now UK Creative Director for them and in the past few years have been to Italy, Australia and Norway to work on stage showing the latest trends. I am also a bridal hair specialist, with my salon offering bespoke wedding packages, and we have appeared on stage at the National Wedding Show alongside Caryn Franklin. Celebs to visit the salon include Hollywood actress Neve Campbell, Little Boots and Shelley Conn.
